Rivers State Government to Set Aside 300 Houses for Public Officers.

The Rivers State government has set aside 300 houses for sale to public officers in the employ of the state.
The Head of Service, Mr Samuel LongJohn, gave the information in a statement made available to newsmen in Port Harcourt on Friday.
He said that only officers with about 10 years left in the service were qualified to access the houses, located at the state government’s estate along Dr. Peter Odili Road.

“Interested officers will undergo prequalification exercise; the beneficiaries will pay an initial 30 per cent of the total cost of the house.
“Private mortgage institutions will then pay the balance while deductions will be made from salaries of beneficiaries,’’ he said.
LongJohn said that arrears of 70 per cent salary relativity and minimum wage would be paid in 10 installments. He said that the payment in installments was due to the huge amount of money spent on wage bill. The Head of Service urged workers to be patient with the state government as everything possible was being done to meet their demands.
