Gov Amaechi’s aide shot in Port Harcourt

Rivers State Commissioner of Sports, Hon. Fred Igwe was said to have been shot on Tuesday by yet to be identified gunmen at Eleme interchange in the port harcourt. Hon Igwe who was returning from Eleme, his home town was attacked around Akpajo axis of the area which is just before Port Harcourt metropolis. It was gathered that his vehicle was badly raided with bullets. The commissioner is currently receiving treatments in an undisclosed hospital, though his condition is being shrouded in secrecy. However, a source who spoke in anonymity said the incident may not be politically motivated. “I know Igwe is on the Governor Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi side of the divide, but I sincerely do not think that this incident has anything to do with politics. “I do not believe the political situation in the state has reached that point of attempted assassinations. I rather think that it may be a case of armed robbery or a case of disgruntled people who felt shortchanged after the recent sign on fees payment to Sharks, Dolphins and Rivers Angels trying to get back at him”, the source said. When contacted, spokesperson of the Rivers State Police Command, Angela Agabe, confirmed the incident, saying: “I can confirm it is true. We got the report and the police are on the trail of the perpetrators”. Fred Igwe was among the 14 commissioners expelled from the Felix Obuah-led Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Rivers State for failing to appear before the performance evaluation committee of the party and for alleged anti-party activities - THE TIDE

2015: Ogonis Deserve Governorship …MOSOP Faults Obuah’s Stand

MOSOP - The Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People has criticised the purported endorsement of the sponsor of the Felix Obuah-led Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State, Chief Nyesom Wike, by the party’s chairman as a disappointing conspiracy against the Ogoni gubernatorial quest, saying that the party’s position was of grave concern to the people of Ogoni. The President of MOSOP, Legborsi Saro Pyagbara while reacting to some comments directing to the Obuah-led faction of PDP in the state, said the people of Ogoni consider the position as appalling and shameful. Pyagbara appealed to the national leadership of the PDP to call its factional chairman in Rivers State, Felix Obuah to order, explaining that the group views the comment as not only a deliberate infringement on fairness but also politically insensitive, out-of-touch with the yearnings of the people of the state, and unfortunate. According to him, “it is clear that the Ogoni governorship quest is most popular, widely accepted and overwhelmingly supported within and outside Rivers State”. According to him, “the PDP would be losing a golden opportunity to monopolize and secure to its electoral advantage the huge Ogoni voting strength, if it fails to commit her platform to any Ogoni seeking to govern Rivers State come 2015”. “The sustained unguarded and inflammable utterances and actions of the PDP state chairman, demonstrably betrays a devious attempt at scuttling Ogoni political interest and it is unacceptable. If the untoward development is not addressed, it would require inflexible Ogoni response”, he warned. “We are aware that Obuah is acting a script as we know the forces at play. However, the stance reflects an implicit admission of what we have all along been suspecting. Nonetheless, we would like to warn that Ogoni will refuse to be confined to being heavers of water and fetchers of wood in a state that we are not inferior but eminently qualified”, he noted He noted that the Obuah-led PDP insistence on depriving Ogoni of her deserved berth at the office of governor of the state come 2015 meant that the red line has been crossed, and would no doubt provoke tough, decisive response as the people will not continue to be political passersby in the state. The MOSOP chief said it would be unfair that while Rivers West and East senatorial districts have produced governors of the state, for two terms each under zoning understanding, efforts are being made to deny Rivers South East Senatorial District of the opportunity others have enjoyed. ”The Obuah/Wike’s intention to scuttle the political understanding in the state is definitely anti-Ikwerre and his party. MOSOP feels the PDP chairman’s action negates internal democracy and paints the platform in bad light”, .he said. Pyagbara, however, warned that MOSOP would pursue the course of an Ogoni becoming governor in 2015 with the same vigour, collectivism, and non-violence with which it fought environmental injustice in addition to effective mobilization of the Ogoni society. He said the people would resist temptations to be swayed, adding that MOSOP will continue to stick to her avowed commitment to peaceful advocacy for the rights of the Ogoni. “Let it be known that Ogoni will support any political party in Nigeria that provides her platform for the actualization of the Ogoni quest for the position of governor of Rivers State in 2015”, he said. – THE TIDE

Chelsea Scheming Again? Hijacks Willian From Tottenham deal

Watching the special one from the side lines, you can tell that he could influence anything. Even a player to change his mind after medicals, breaking the other teams heart.... Hehehehe

Tottenham appeared well placed to sign the Anzhi Makhachkala forward after he completed a medical, but Chelsea now appear to be calling the Shots as far as this deal is concern.

"I think he's already made his decision," Mourinho said.

The self-styled 'Special One' nodded in the affirmative when asked if that was Chelsea.
He added: "I don't like to speak before time because football can be crazy.
"I know what the player wants, so in this moment we cannot hide. That is a possibility."

Mourinho added that he preferred smaller squads "with 22 players", hinting that some players would lead.

Ben Affleck As New Bat MAn in Man Of Steel Sequel

For all you Super Hero Movie Lovers, Oscar-winner Ben Affleck has been cast as Batman in the sequel to "Man of Steel," Warner Brothershas confirmed this to ABC News.

Affleck, who recently won a Best Picture Oscar for producing "Argo," which he directed and starred in, will join Henry Cavill as Superman in the next installment of the Superman franchise. The yet-to-be titled film will be directed by Zack Snyder, who lensed "Man of Steel," "Watchmen" and "Sucker Punch."

"Ben provides an interesting counter-balance to Henry's Superman," Snyder said in a statement. "He has the acting chops to create a layered portrayal of a man who is older and wiser than Clark Kent and bears the scars of a seasoned crime fighter, but retain the charm that the world sees in billionaire Bruce Wayne. I can't wait to work with him."

The film will bring Batman and Superman together for the first time on the big screen, and will also bring back "Man of Steel" stars Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane.

Another 175 Prisoners Roam the streets After Jailbreak in Akure

Ondo State Governor, Olusegun Mimiko (left) with Comptroller of Prison in the state, Olatunde Olayiwola

Story From Punch
There was pandemonium in the early hours of Sunday when gunmen, numbering about 30, invaded the Olokuta Medium Security Prisons in Akure, Ondo State capital, and set about 175 inmates free.
The bandits, according to eyewitnesses, arrived at the prison premises, which is less than one kilometre away from the headquarters of the 32 Artillery Brigade of the Nigerian Army, also known as Owena Barracks, around 12. 05am, shooting indiscriminately.
The armed men were said to have gained entry into the prison by using dynamite to blow off a section of the walls, after a futile attempt to enter through the main entrance.
A source said one of the warders was hit by the attackers’ bullets, was ordered to release the keys to the cells, and was also forced to set the inmates free.

Brazil Host and Wins Confederations Cup Final

I will say it was an easy win for the samba boys of Brazil as they humbled world Champions Spain to a 3 goal defeat at the famous Maracana stadium in Rio De genero.

The FIFA Confederation Cup 2013 which was a tournament marked by nationwide protests, ended with a reminder of Brazil's enduring quality as a football powerhouse, which has previously served as uniting factor for the entire nation.

With Two goals from Fred and the other from Neymar it was a good way to make sure the headlines would be made by their exploits as they dominated a team holding both the World Cup and European Championship trophies.

Congrats Brazil

If They suffocate us in PDP, We will Move -Gov Ameachi

The photo above was taking on Saturday at the Port Harcourt int Airport  with Gov Ameachi doing what I will call damage Control After his blunder on Thursday at the presidential Dinner.

Barely 24hrs After that warm handshake with GEJ (a first in 6months), he speaks in a thanksgiving service this time answering to the Archbishop of Niger delta Province and Bishop of Niger Delta North Diocese Rt, Rev Ignatius C. Kattey, at the Thanksgiving service marking the 60th Birthday of former President of the Nigerian Bar Association, OCJ Okocha,SAN, in Port Harcourt.

These are the statements he made, while speaking at the event answering questions about his suspension from the Apex Party.

“If they (PDP) reverse it tomorrow, there is one more option left to me, I can dissolve the entire executive. The police can remain there as much as they want, it is Obio/Akpor people’s problem; the money is going nowhere. We have saved you too, because the reason they suspended the executives is because they said, ‘let us investigate the place because there was corruption.’

“I lead the people of Rivers State and I will lead you. If they suffocate us in PDP and we need to move, we move! We will continue to struggle for our rights, and that includes our oil wells. You will hear the truth of this fight in December or January. I will address the state and I will tell you the truth of the fight,” Amaechi said.

Now I think this issues has been practically the focus of the first half of the year in Rivers State..And the sincerely I am tired of it all.... what do you think...????

Relocate British Visa Office to Port Harcourt -Ameachi

Rivers state Governor, Chibuike Amaechi, has appealed to the British High Commission in Nigeria to relocate its visa office back to Port Harcourt.

He made the appeal when the British Deputy High Commissioner to Nigeria, Peter Carter, paid him a visit in Port Harcourt, the state capital.
The Governor said that Rivers people will be glad if that policy happens, so that people in the South-South region can be able to process their visa application in Port Harcourt.
He added that a lot of people fly directly to the UK through Port Harcourt hence the need to have the visa office in the Garden City.

Learn From Spain - Amiesimaka

A former Super Eagles' winger, Adokiye Amiesimaka, (Yea the same man who gave the Super Eagles Tips on how to beat spain "Yea Right" from our older posts) has called on the Nigeria Football Association (NFA) to use football academies to groom players for the National teams. Ahead NGF Meeting: Amaechi Confers With Obasanjo(Baba)

The Governor of Rivers State  Rotimi Amaechi, is leaving nothing to chance as he consolidates his victory in the forum’s election held on 24 May 2013.

Amaechi who has fixed a meeting of the forum for tomorrow at the Rivers State Governors’ Lodge, Abuja, is set to meet former President Olusegun Obasanjo in Abeokuta in company of the Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso. Though Amaechi is yet to arrive for the meeting with Obasanjo as at the time of filing this report, #ThePHCityBlog gathered that the meeting earlier fixed for yesterday could not hold because the governor failed to show up. Sources close to the Rivers State governor disclosed that Amaechi is seeking Obasanjo’s support in his battle with President Goodluck Jonathan who is determined to remove him as the Chairman of the Governors’ Forum.

Governor Amaechi yesterday circulated a notice of meeting of the Governors’ Forum for Wednesday at the Rivers State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja at 8p.m. The meeting which is held monthly usually precedes the National Economic Council, NEC, meeting in Abuja. But curiously, the Presidency also fixed a dinner to be held with all the 36 governors on the same day and at the same time, See GOBE. Some political observers view the dinner as an attempt by the Presidency to prevent the meeting of the governors from taking place.

ZONING RULED OUT IN RIVERS STATE - Nyesom Wike

Nyesom Wike
MINISTER of State for Education, Mr. Nyesom Wike has ruled out zoning in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Rivers State in the next general elections to be held soon. Wike at a sensitisation programme organised by Grassroots Development Initiative (GDI) in Elele, Ikwerre Local Government Area of the state, also said that he was now the acting leader of the party in the state with the suspension of Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi.

According to him, the decision to throw offices open for contest by all sections of the state would further strengthen internal democracy in the party, adding that it would give room for the party to produce the best candidates for the elections. Continuing, he showered praises on President Goodluck Jonathan, saying that he had done well for the state. Wike said so far, the President had appointed a good number of Rivers sons as chairmen of federal parastatals. On his part, the factional state Chairman of the party, Mr. Felix Obuah, said all efforts he made to reclaim what he termed his stolen mandate were unsuccessful until Wike stepped in. We will feed you more as the Story develops @Freshayan on Twitter.com

Civil groups want Rivers police boss removed, demoted

Nigeria’s Niger Delta Civil Society Coalition, NDCSC, has called for the removal of Mr Mbu Joseph Mbu,the Rivers State Commissioner of Police. The Coalition also wants Mbu demoted over his description of Governor Chibuike Amaechi as “tyrant and a dictator”.
NDCSC said that it was shocked beyond words to learn that the Rivers State Police Commissioner, made the comment, describing it as “an unparallelled executive rascality unbecoming of a senior professional police official and without any shadow of doubt, contrary to the code of ethics of a people oriented police service.”
In a statement issued in Port harcourt and signed by NDCSC Chairman Comrade Anyankwe Nsirimovu, NDCSC said that the recent public attack on the Governor underscored the earlier petitions of civil society groups in the region, to the effect that the commissioner’s continuing stay in Rivers State Police command can only be counterproductive, undesirable.
NDCSC further alleged that the Commissioner has proven beyond any reasonable doubt, following his untoward behaviour and vituperations, that he is an official, craftily drafted to Rivers State for a hatchet job.
The Coalition of Civil Societies in the region said that Commissioner Mbu has assumed the position of an alternative governor or better still, Sole Administrator, “in daily competition for control of the political space with an elected governor in a democracy”.

Amaechi: Chairman of Nigeria’s Governors Forum
The group went further to allege that by sustaining Mbu in his position, the Federal Government may have introduced emergency rule in Rivers state, via the back-door.
“Failure to remove the Commissioner from Rivers state shall force critical civil society membership of the Doing Democracy Movement (DDM) to organize and prosecute a peaceful protest in Defence of Democracy and the Rule of Law shortly to drive home its position”.

Mbu Joseph Mbu, Commissioner of Police Rivers State
Below is the full statement credited to Commissioner Mbu at a recent press conference:

“I called this press briefing to speak on the very unpleasant reactions that are coming from the governor of Rivers state. The office of the governor is a revered office, it has respect. It is not an office that should be commonised. Sometimes silence is golden but sometimes it is misconstrued. I have respect for Governor Amaechi but his attacks on me are going beyond bounds.
“We have never held a formal security meeting in this state since I came. There has never been any formal letter written to convene security meeting in this state since I came. Letters for such meetings go to the security commanders indicating that there will be a security meeting with the governor or his Deputy. Attached to the letter are the agenda and the minutes of the previous meeting. I ask the governor to produce such. What the governor does is to ask his security officer to call the Commissioner of Police for a meeting. These people are below the rank of a DCP. I stopped them recently from calling my line because there are channels of communication. There is an Inspector General of Police, IG directive that after every Security Council meeting details must be sent by hand to the IG. “
“ One issue I have had with the governor is who chairs internal security meetings in the state. He, (governor) said we should rotate it but I said no, there is a letter from the NSA on this. It is the Commissioner of Police that does. I told him if my predecessors did not do what was right I won’t follow them. The Commissioner of Police is to chair the forum and assume responsibility to brief the governor. I told him the IG has so many sources of information. I told the governor that my loyalty to the governor is total.
“I will speak statistically on the crime wave and how it has reduced. I am a core professional police officer. I will beg the governor not to drag my name into politics. Nobody can influence me. It is only my conscience that can. I believe in God and I trust in God.
“The Chief of Staff to the governor has gone to court asking the court to restrain the police from arresting him. I am not ready for him yet because no court can grant such order. He threatened the live of the president of the place. That is why police is protecting the place (Port Harcourt club). A new circular is coming on who and who are entitled to police protection. The president of Port Harcourt club his life has been attempted twice
“Our governor is very tyrannical, he is a dictator. He wants everybody to say "yes sir" to him and I said I will not say so. I am a professional.
“I have refurbished twelve Hilux on my own. The crime rate has dropped in the state. There have been tremendous changes. I spent six months in Oyo state. And the House of Assembly held a Special session to honor me. I have respect for the office of the governor and the governor of the state. But let him also have respect for the Police and me. “
“The equipment the state government bought for tracking of kidnappers they gave to the SSS. I have tried to ask for one meant for the Police. I am not here for any agenda. I don’t know why His Excellency has chosen the war path with me.”

Confederations Cup: Amiesimaka gives Super Eagles tip to beat Spain 9

Former Green Eagles winger, Chief Adokiye Amiesi-maka has eulogised the Super Eagles despite their 1-2  loss to the South American champions Uruguay, in the on-going Confederations Cup in Brazil as he gave them a tip on how to handle World champions, Spain, their next opponent today.

According to Amiesimaka, a former sports commissioner in Rivers State, Stephen Keshi and his wards should review the tape of the Uefa Champions League match between Bayern Munich and Barcelona FC and “they will see the antidote to the ‘tiki taka’ style’ of the Spanish team.

In an sms to Saturday Vanguard sports, Amiesimaka who served as chairman of Sharks Football Club of Port Harcourt at a time said, “they (Eagles) gave a good account of themselves despite the loss to Uruguay. I’m confident they can hold their own against any opposition including Spain.”

He added that “if they remain focused throughout the duration of the match (against Spain today), they can spring a surprise on Spain.”
Keeping my fingers crossed, God help the boys, God Bless Nigeria

Gov Amaechi Re-Elected Governors Forum Chairman.

After weeks of leadership tussle and public expectation that the Rivers state governor, Chibuike Amaechi, may be pushed aside as the Chairman of the Governor’s Forum, he has again been re-elected and returned as the chairman of the Forum.
He defeated his close rival, Governor Jonah Jang of Plateau State by 3 votes.
The Governor won 19 votes from the 35 governors present, while his Plateau State counterpart who is a late entrant to the keenly contested position won just 16 votes
Only governor Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo of Gombe State was absent at the election.

How will the Ameachi SAGA END? " Youths & Ex Militants Demand Gov Ameachi's resignation

Youths Protesting

GOVERNMENT activities in Port Harcourt were paralyzed on Wednesday as youths and ex-militant leaders stormed the River State Government House, demanding the resignation of Governor Rotimi Amaechi.

The protesters also urged Amaechi to explain how he managed the N1.6tn that had accrued to the state since he became the governor.

Among the protesters were militant leaders, Chief Ateke Tom, Chief Solomon Ndigbara and Pastor Nature Kiegse.

Clad in white T-shirts with inscriptions, ‘Amaechi must go’, ‘Amaechi, Who owns the jet?’ and ‘Amaechi, you constructed one kilometre road with N1.5bn’, the protesters chanted war songs while security operatives watched them in bewilderment.

Since April, the state has been witnessing protests either in support or against the Amaechi administration.

But Wednesday's protest, which was embarked upon by youths under the auspices of the Rivers People Assembly, caused a gridlock that lasted for over five hours.

One of the leaders of the Assembly, Mr. Joshua Ihunwo, said they were protesting to seek clarification of the two aircraft purchased by the former Governor Peter Odili’s administration.

Ihunwo said they wanted to know how the revenue received by the state since 2007 had been spent and why a kilometre of road was constructed at N1bn.

“What is happening today is just like the Arab Spring. We will occupy Port Harcourt until Amaechi leaves office. We want an explanation from him on how he managed the N1.6tn that came to the state as revenue since he became governor.

“This is a 10,000-man march and youths here want the governor to tell them why the construction of a kilometre road in Rivers cost N1bn,” Ihunwo added.

Ndigbara, who expressed reservation about the Amaechi-led administration, said it was time youths in the state declared the governor wanted.

But in a telephone interview with our correspondent, the state commissioner for Information and Communication, Mrs. Ibim Semenitari, said the government would not join issues with people perceived to be “miscreants”.

Semenitari maintained that though the state government had been transparent in its dealing with the people, the majority of those in the protest were people without any locus standi to speak on such issues.

She said, “These are people that should not be on the streets based on their antecedents. It is unfortunate that this set of people now attend political party meetings.

“Though we do not think the state government should join issues with these protesters, it is necessary to say the state government is transparent in its dealings with Rivers people.”

Scientists Discover Sea Slug That Sheds its Penis After Sex. Romantic Or What ??

In the Spirit of Valentine, I saw this Story about the Chromodoris reticulata and felt I should share it, Read and share your thoughts. Happy Valentine..

After studying the small slug that lives in warms waters in Southeast Asia, Japanese biologists recently concluded that the red and white animal loves with great force -- and then loses its penis before growing a new one.
"No other animal is known to repeatedly copulate using such 'disposable penes'," the Biologists write in the Royal Society journal Biology Letters. (Yeah, they wrote penes. Go ahead and giggle.)

Mating_sea_slugs.jpg
phenomena.nationalgeographic.com
The red-and-white-slug is a hermaphrodite (possessing both male and female sexual organs), and can "unroll" a coiled, compressed, and brand new penis out of its side within 24-hours of having sex with another slug.
Because you know we're as perplexed as we are, the details are these:
- The hermaphrodites perform both roles during sex -- they both give sperm to a mating partner while receiving sperm that's stored for insemination.
- Slug sex lasts anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes.
- And when it's all over, the slugs discard their penes (described as "a thread-like organ that it projects from its side") into their partners' vaginas.
The scientists note that the animal is not the only one in the kingdom to rid itself of a body part in a process called autotomy -- geckos lose their tales, octopi lose their arms, species of mice can lose their skin, bees lose their stingers -- but no other animal is as notably calm or willing to part with its package.
