Jacintha Saldanha |
The nurse who transferred the phone call from a radio station to Kate Middleton's hospital room on Tuesday December 4, 2012 has been found dead. Her death has been clarified as unexplained by authorities.
Paramedics were called at 9:35 am on Friday December 7, 2012 with a report of an unconscious woman at an address not far from the hospital. After paramedics attempted to revive her, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Jacintha Saldanha was on the receiving end of a phone call made by two Australian disc jockeys. The two were playing a prank in an attempt to receive information on Middleton's condition. Saldanha did not divulge any information, but did transfer the call to Middleton's hospital room.
The nurse who was caring for Middleton, did then release information believing that Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Charles were indeed on the phone
According to CBS, a spokesperson for St. James' Palace said, "The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are deeply saddened to learn of the death of Jacintha Saldanha. Their Royal Highnesses were looked after so wonderfully well at all times by everybody at King Edward VII Hospital, and their thoughts and prayers are with Jacintha Saldanha's family, friends, and colleagues at this very sad time."
The radio station hosts' did issue an apology later that day saying they really did not think they would be successful in the hoax.
