The federal and state war between Rivers state and the Fed. government just goes, The National Judicial Council, NJC, has suspended the newly appointed Rivers State Chief Judge, Justice Peter Agumagu.NJC took the decision in Abuja after an emergency meeting held on the developments in the Rivers State Judiciary.The NJC accused Justice Agumagu of disregarding the council by accepting the appointment of Governor Rotimi Amaechi.

Senate Confirm Godwin Emefiele as 11th Governor of CBN

The Senate has confirmed Godwin Emefiele as the next Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN.Mr. Emefiele will resume in June when the tenure of the suspended Central Bank Governor, Lamido Sanusi, expires.The Senate’s confirmation of Mr. Emefiele on Wednesday follows his nomination by President Goodluck Jonathan in February. TRAGEDY: Gun men attack Three kids on their way to school in Port Harcourt

I just got this very sad news from a phcityblog reader in Port Harcourt who witnessed first hand what happened to the poor kids as they were brought to the hospital,  radio stations in the city are also  confirm the news. She said Unknown gun men attacked two brothers and their sister on their way to school with their driver yesterday Tuesday 26th Feb 2014. The first boy aged 12 died immediately , they were rushed to BMSH , the driver died later on . Now surviving is the sister and brother aged 6 and 10 respectively .These all happened at rumahorlu(farm road). The family also reported that their father was attacked two weeks ago but escaped. I wonder what this city is turning to.

SHOCKING: Man Impregnates Elder Sister in Lagos

Wonders they say never ends, A 24-year-old man has impregnated his elder sister, 25, in Ajegunle area of Lagos State. LEADERSHIP learnt that their father popularly known as Papa Akpan is a steward in Ikoyi area while his wife, Mama Akpan is a staff of a private company in Apapa where she works as a cleaner.Sources said the parents usually leave their children, Akpan and Ime alone in their one-room apartment when going to work and the siblings are said to be fond of each other but nobody suspected an amorous relationship between them.

LEADERSHIP gathered that when their mother suspected that Ime was pregnant, she asked her but she denied one month later, it became obvious that Ime was pregnant and the woman had to tell her husband about the situation.Last Friday, at about 4am, Papa Akpan was said to have woken Ime, her mother and Akpan up to discuss the issue and had pulled out a machete and threatened to cut Ime down if she failed to say who was responsible for her pregnancy.A neighbour said as the atmosphere in the room became charged, Akpan ran out and it was at this point that Ime who was by this time weeping profusely, told her parents that her younger brother was responsible for the pregnancy.

SAD NEWS: FAMILY OF THREE AND ONE YET UNBORN DIE IN PORT HARCOURT

I just read this sad story now from the Guardian and I felt its important to share it. A couple and their son were found dead on Saturday, after inhaling generator fume in their residence at Elekahia Housing Estate, Port Harcourt, Rivers State.The Guardian reports that the man had Friday night, switched on the generator and placed at the corridor of his apartment.Sources close to the family said the poisonous fume suffocated the man, his pregnant wife and there little child. Narrating the incident, Landlord of the apartment, Mr. Chikason Bombs, said the victim put on his generator close to the bedroom where there was no ventilation.He said they saw four persons lying face down when they entered the apartment, adding that the wife of the deceased was still breathing when they got into the house.“When we got there, I discovered that the deceased’s big generator set was on and very close to their bedroom, where there was no ventilation,” he said.“Two persons were dead already while we took the remaining persons to the Braitwaite Memorial Hospital, Port Harcourt. The Doctors on duty did not respond to the emergency situation at that point, otherwise, that woman would have survived”“We waited for so long before they could attend to us, and the woman just passed on.”The Landlord added that the only survival of the incident was a 17-year-old girl, who was living with the victims."A nurse at the Hospital confirmed the incident, saying that a man, his pregnant wife and a little boy were brought to the hospital as early as 5.00 am on Saturday.Confirming that the victims died as a result of generator fume, she added that the hospital has recorded three such incidents.She appealed to the media to create awareness on the dangers of inhaling carbon monoxide.

GOV. AMEACHI: Golf Estate Ready in February 2015.

The dream of completing a golf estate in Port Harcourt, Rivers State for lovers of golf would soon be realised, Rivers State Governor and Chairman of Nigeria Governors’ Forum, Rt. Hon. The people of Ogoni in Rivers State have distanced themselves from the alleged endorsement of the supervising minister of education, Chief Ezebunwo Nyesom Wike to contest the governorship election in the state on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), come 2015.A group, the Ogoni/Orashi Alliance (OOA), recently endorsed Wike, who hails from the same Ikwerre ethnic nationality and Rivers East senatorial district with the incumbent governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, for the gubernatorial race.

James Rebhorn was one actor who never really got much credit but, always delivered when he was casted in any role mostly police chief, politician and as a lawyer. He featured in movies like meet the parents, scent of a woman, Independence Day,  most resenyly in a Tv series Homland. He died of Melanoma at his home in South Orange N.J on friday at age 65.

Bank of England Withdraw £50 from Circulation

The Bank of England will be withdrawing the GBP50 from circulation, a circular from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) released yesterday said.CBN Acting Director, Trade and Exchange, J.O. Ajewole, who signed the circular addressed to all authorised dealers and the general public, said the Bank of England will be withdrawing the GBP50 bill with the portrait of Sir John Houblon from circulation. He said the bill will cease to be legal tender with effect from April 30.Ajewole advised authorised dealers in possession of the currency note and who wish to repatriate their stock to avail themselves of the services of Messrs Travelex Banknotes Ltd.

Senate President David Mark Excapes Death

The Nigerian Senate President David Mark on Friday escaped an attack by gunmen in Orlu area of Imo State.Reports say the gunmen specifically targeted the vehicle which the Senate President was expected to enter.The Senate President was on his way to the burial ceremony of late business mogul, Sir John Richard Anyaehie in Nkwerre Community in Imo State.No life was lost in the attack.

University Of Port Harcourt, Among 6 Nigerian Universities to Recieve N2 billion NLNG grant

The Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) Limited on Yesterday Wednesday announced a donation of N2 billion ($12 million) to six federal universities from each of the six geo-political zones of Nigeria for further development of engineering education in the country.
The company also said that it has committed $1 million each to the training of Nigerians who are involved in the building of six of its new LNG ships in Korea.The financial grant was announced by the Managing Director of NLNG Limited, Babs Omotowa at a briefing in Abuja. The briefing had in attendance Vice-Chancellors of the recipient universities; University of Ibadan (UI), University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN), University of Maiduguri (Unimaid), University of Port Harcourt (Uniport), University of Ilorin (Unilorin) and Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria.Omotowa stated at the meeting that the NLNG will spend in each of the benefitting universities, N340 million ($2 million) for construction of modern engineering laboratories and installation of cutting-edge engineering laboratory equipment in line with the objectives of its newly approved Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) for universities tagged, NLNG University Support Programme (USP).He explained that the six universities were selected based on their top positions within their geopolitical zones as well as by the rankings of the National Universities Commission (NUC) and other global bodies.

A Federal High court in Port Harcourt has nullified the recommendation of the National Judicial Council, NJC, for the position of a substansive chief judge of Rivers State.The NJC had recommended Justice Daisy Okocha for the position of the Chief Judge in the state but Governor Rotimi Amaechi had consistently refused to swear her in. Reading the heading of this post, i guess you will say impossible! but its true or should i say according to Aliyu Ibraham, a 30-year-old man, from Ndo village in Agbada, Kokona local government, Nasarawa State. The Nigerian Police Rivers command arrested him for being in possession of explosives, including detonators and a cordless wire.

The Commissioner of Police Rivers State Police Command, Mr. Tunde Ogunsakin who paraded the suspect said Ibrahim had confessed to be a member of a kidnap syndicate based in Ogbogoro town in Obio/Akpor local government area of the state.He said the suspect also confessed to be a member of a bank robbery syndicate operating between Port Harcourt and Akwa Ibom State. Ibrahim told the police that he bought the explosives in Port Harcourt with the aim of taking them to one Alhaji in Yobe State before he was caught.“He was arrested in Ndele Town in Emohua local government area of Rivers State on March 17, 2014 at about 2:30 pm with a huge quantity of dynamite explosives with their detonators and cordless wire.“The suspect confessed to be a member of a kidnap syndicate based in Ogbogoro town and a member of a bank robbery syndicate that operates between Port Harcourt and Akwa Ibom State,” the commissioner narrated.

He warned kidnappers and armed robbers in the state to leave or be ready to face the wrath of the law when they are apprehended, emphasising that, “we have continued to warn criminal elements to leave the state. If they refuse to leave the state, we will ensure that they face the wrath of the law when they are caught.”

4 Days Later, Wazobia Ace presenter Akas Baba still Kidnaped.

It's still shocking news that the ace morning presenter of wazobia FM 94.1 Port Harcourt Anthony Akatapko AKA Akas Baba is still in the hands of faceless and nameless men. News has it that his abductors has demanded for a ransom of 10million naira for his release. I wonder what his state of mind and health right now would be? Remember he was shot in the leg. Has he gotten proper treatment? Am sure these questions are asked every hour he stays behind enemy lines by his family and those who hold him close to their hearts. Our prayers go out to his Family and please politicians should not use this incident to score points but support the police so he is released.

The once PDP safe haven Rivers State, is now divided. The governor who proudly flags the APC colours took over 80% of his cabinet and beneficiaries with him to join the progress ives. If you ask any member of his cabinet or a contractor in his administration they say "I cannot bite the hand that feed me". But is this saying also applicable to all rivers People? Talking to some business men and women, they sill say they are proudly PDP.

N30million for PDP's Chieftain Dicken's release

Kidnappers of a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Port Harcourt City local government area of Rivers State, Mr Dicken Worlu have demanded N30million ransom for his release.Worlu was kidnapped about a week ago at his residence along Ojike Street, Mile One axis of Diobu, a densely populated area of Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.Wife of the kidnapped PDP chieftain, Mrs Patricia Worlu, who disclosed this when members of the National Association of Sea-Dogs (NAS), also known as Pirates Fraternity, paid her a sympathy visit, said the family had been praying for the safe and unconditional release of her husband.While appealing to the kidnappers to have pity on the family and release the husband, Mrs Worlu said the family had not been the same since the sad incident.She said, “We don’t have the money. Where will the money come from? We are begging that they release my husband unconditionally.”Earlier, leader of the NAS delegation, Professor Temi Akporhonor, lamented the state of insecurity in the country, urging the Rivers State government and the security agencies to take practical steps to secure the unconditional release of the hostage.Akporhonor, who described the kidnapped PDP chieftain as a personal friend, said it was sad that some criminal elements were trying to reduce the nation to a jungle, and advised the wife of Worlu and other family members to be strong, assuring that the security agencies and government would work to secure release of the head of the family.
