UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE POST MORTEM: FC BAYERN MUNCHEN VS REAL MADRID

La Decima calling?
BAYERN 0-4 REAL MADRID (ALLIANZ ARENA): Madrid goes through 5-0 on aggregate.

A performance beyond imagination is the way I would describe this game and that goes for both sides. Let’s take a look at ultimately what Bayern Munich did wrong and how Real Madrid exploited these deficiencies.

BAYERN MUNCHEN: After the show of determination in the press room, the football pitch is where the Champions are defined and sadly, this did not apply to Bayern. They did not turn up.

Sober
The set up looked wrong from the offing and Thomas Muller had a lot to justify on this day. After his performance or lack thereof, it is hard to make a case for him about starting matches. It was really important that Javi Martinez took to the field from the start, the frailness we witnessed from Kroos and Schweinsteiger as Bayern got ripped apart was hurtful to watch.

Martinez’s introduction in the second half was a damage limitation ploy and it worked for 44 minutes before the 4th goal of the night. Franck Ribery seems to have a lot of frustration within and this should be a worry for Didier Deschamps going into the World Cup!.

It is a more Obvious now the reason behind the relentless pursuit of Lewandowski as Mario Mandzukic likes it on a plate and tuesday's game was not suited to his characteristics. I would fear for my position if i was him.

The lesson to take out of this defeat for Bayern is hard to actually ascertain. Pep Guardiola resisted once more the call to change his footballing philosophy. Maybe with personnel like Thiago Alcantara and Robert Lewandowski, it could have been a different game.

Bayern must stop buying every star the other Bundesliga teams groom and leave a little more competition in the league. We have just seen first-hand what the perils of a weak division are.

REAL MADRID:
Vamos Ramos
Scoring from three restart play situations was an avenue of their game Real Madrid improved to claim victory.

Add to that the supreme execution of tactics.

Cristiano Ronaldo gave us a new way to represent 15 even as he went one better to assure the record of most goals in a single UEFA Champions league campaign.

His tally is 16 now with a final game on the horizon. He is the best player in the world without contest.
Top of his game.
Carlo Ancelotti catered for Lahm and Robben’s incursions with Di Maria doing the dirty work on the left instead of Ronaldo. This was an interesting ploy as often the counter motions originated from turnovers on the left with Di maria integral to that.

Needless Booking
The polka dot on the veneer has to be needless booking incurred by Xabi Alonso with Real Madrid 3-0 up already. Every footballer wants to play the big matches but Alonso must now be content with a seat in the stands.

I think Asier Illaramendi or Sergio Ramos will do well to reprise his role. Illaramendi especially will feel sorry for his fellow spaniard but also secretly happy with the opportunity that has presented.

Real will surely go into the finals with the favourites tag against Atlético.

The 10th European title beckons for Real Madrid and Carlo Ancelotti will be destined for folklore if he succeeds. With Bale, Di maria, Ronaldo and Benzema, it can be dangerous to stand in their way.
