Police: Sylva’s Ex-Chief of Staff Arrested over Alleged Murder

Men of the Bayelsa State Police Command have arrested Mr. Samuel Ogbuku, the Chief of Staff to former Governor Timipre Sylva over a murder he allegedly committed in 2011.

Ogbuku was arrested at Igbogene area in uptown Yenagoa at about 7 pm on Saturday after attending the burial ceremony of the father of the former Commissioner for Energy, Maxwell Oko (his cousin), at Otuasega.
Security sources confirmed the arrest of Ogbuku based on allegations contained in a petition filed by unidentified persons over his alleged involvement in the killing of some persons in 2011.
Close friends of Ogbuku, who pleaded anonymity, insisted that his arrest was politically motivated by the present administration of Governor Seriake Dickson. Ogbuku is the fourth close associate of Sylva who has been arrested in recent times.
Close associates of the former governor such as Sir Tonye Okio and Fakuma Ilagha were thrown  into prison custody until they were freed by the courts.
Ogbuku, according to close relatives, is being detained at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) section of the State Police Command. Some relatives and friends were sighted yesterday trying to have access to him and find out what had happened, but they were denied access by the police.
Attempts to get confirmation from the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Hillary Okpara, proved abortive as he was said to be on official assignment in Owerri, Imo State
